Obituary
James E. Garza, 51, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, in New York City. He is preceded in death by his parents Justino and Guadalupe Lopez. He is survived by his life partner Allen Kadish, brothers; Orlando Garza, John Charles Garza and Christopher Lopez, sisters; Helen Gandara and Theresa Lopez and several nieces and nephews.

James was born on July 26, 1960 and passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2012.
James was a resident of Houston, Texas at the time of his passing.
He is survived by his companion Allen Kadish.

Mark Hunker Birth: August. 9, 1960 Groton, New London County, Connecticut, USA Death: May 16, 2014 Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA Mark Hunker, 53, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014, in Houston. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Dr, in Houston, with Reverend Kristin Huffman officiating. He will be inurned at that church’s Columbarium at a later date. Mark was born to Martin C. Hunker and Delores Pease Hunker into a military life, finally settling in Houston. He was blessed to live a busy life that he enjoyed fully with the love and support of his family and many many friends. He was an executive at World Cinema, Inc., where he wheeled and dealed for 30 years. He was very active at church, taking every opportunity to help and lead, especially when children were involved. Mark is survived by his wife, Connie Gene Hunker; son and daughter-in-law, Beau and Jennifer Franke, and grand daughter, Allie Franke; his father, his sisters Debbie Reid and Dawnette Connors, his brother Matthew Hunker, many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as extended family members and many friends he considered family. Melvin Jay Peppard (Vocal 1978) died on December 20, 2006 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his fater, James Jay Peppard. Survivors include his loving mother and brother, Margaret Evans Peppard, Alen Jay Peppard, life partner of ten years, Jerry Guerra, Gidget & Aurora (his loving dogs) numerous relatives and dear friends. Melvin worked at Exxon=Mobil for years. Melvin would sing at wedding and birthdays- always sharing his great smile and laughter - what a great sense of humor!

KATHLEEN NOBLE SMITH passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in Austin, Texas at the home of her sister Ann, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Houston, Texas on December 25, 1959. She attended Poe Elementary School, Lanier Junior High School, St. John's High School and graduated from HSPVA. She earned her undergraduate degrees at Stanford University and her Ph.D. in Biology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was awarded the Chateaubriand Fellowship by the French Embassy and pursued her post-doctoral studies at the Institut Curie in Paris, France. She continued working in the fields of DNA recombination, yeast genetics and molecular biology and evolution during her employment with private pharmaceutical companies Mixis:Eucodis and Eviagenics. and co-authored articles in the publications Cell, Yeast, and Current Biology. She was also employed by BioEdit for whom she edited papers in her fields of specialty. Kathleen was a voracious reader, naturalist, logic puzzle solver and loved cooking food of various ethnicities. She enjoyed swimming and knew the location of every public swimming pool in Paris. She kept up with her many friends from school and graduate school and with her work colleagues. Her many friends in Paris will host a remembrance for her there, in late March. Although she was a fervent nonsmoker, she fought lung cancer for four years. In spite of recent memory problems caused by a complication, meningeal carcinoma, she maintained a lively interest in working Sudoku and other math games. She is survived by her mother Pamela Smith Devine and husband David J. Devine, sister Ann Pamela Smith and husband Edward Tovar, brother Thomas David Smith, Jr. and wife Patti, sister Claire Howard Smith and husband Russell Murrell, aunts and uncles Joan and Leslie Ottinger, Geraldine Smith Priest, John C. Riley, Jr. and Nancy Riley and cousins Allyson Cook, Jana Paris, David Ottinger, John Wagner, Elizabeth Ottinger, Sarah Ottinger, Jennifer Chetwynd, and Darcy Pierce. She was also loved by nieces Jennifer Milliken, Erin Milliken and Samantha Smith and nephews Jack Murrell and Mitchell Smith. She was predeceased by her father Thomas David Smith, her grandparents David R. and Katherine Smith and John C. and Kathleen Riley, her uncle Denton C. Priest and cousin Denton C. Priest, Jr. The family would like to express gratitude to her doctor, Laurent Taillade, M.D. and the wonderful nursing staffs at L'h?pital Pitie Salpetriere, Paris and Hospice Austin. Rudolph James Lege, Rudy, passed away in the early morning on April 15th, 2015 in Austin, Texas. He was 54 years old.
He was first and foremost a musician and artist. Rudy was born on December 20th, 1960 in Port Arthur, Texas and then moved to Houston at age nine. He was a graduate of The High School for Performing and Visual Arts, class of 1979 where he studied bassoon and performed orchestral music and jazz. Soon after, he moved to Austin where he worked at The Omelettry Restaurant by day, as a musician as he could, and soaked up the Austin music scene. His passion for music was broad and expressed in the love of playing, collecting and restoring woodwind instruments. He recently completed a Certificate in Band Instrument Repair Technology at Renton Technical College in Seattle, WA.
Rudy was a loving and generous son, brother, uncle and friend who had a knack for finding just the right gift and was always ready for an impromptu jam session and silliness. His art, which he would give to family, included abstract and realistic paintings. We will miss his special energy and spirit with all our hearts.
Rudy is survived by his parents: Margaret Minor Chelette and Gene Whitten-Legé; step-parents: Leo Chelette and Pat Whitten-Legé; siblings: Gene Legé, David Legé, Joan Legé-Krebs and husband Joseph Krebs, Joey Legé and wife Cindy Legé, and Jon Whitten-Legé; and nieces and nephews: Mychal Legé, Anna Legé, Jacqueline Legé, Zachary Krebs, Veronique Krebs, and Julia Krebs . He is also survived by many close friends and a large extended family with special mention of Stephanie Horner Rainbolt and his Godfather Rudolph Legé, Jr.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3617 Milam Street, Houston, TX at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 11, 2015, and the burial service will follow at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches, TX the same day. Family is suggesting, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, HAAM (https://www.myhaam.org/donate/).

In Memory of Rory Glen Allee (Drama Class of 1980) Rory Glenn Allee, 52, of Canyon Lake, Texas, passed away Tuesday morning, April 14, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rory was in the presence of his brother, Curtis, and sister, Becky, who reported he passed peacefully.
Rory was born and raised in Houston but chose to settle in the Texas hill country to live out his adult life. He loved the beauty of the hill country; he loved his community; and he very much loved his family.
For the past 10 plus years Rory delivered mail for businesses and residents of the Canyon Lake area. He enjoyed his work and especially enjoyed those he provided services for; many of whom he befriended over the years. Those customers who became friends later proved to be truly special people as they joined with Rory’s other life-long friends to battle with Rory against his cancer, helping him in many ways. Rory’s family expresses our sincere gratitude to all these kind souls.
Rory is survived by his five children, Samantha R. (Allee) Leade, Ashley A. Allee, Paul G. Allee, Sarah J. Allee, and Noah J. Allee, five grandchildren, wife Rita Allee, and former wife Amy Ruth Snow. He is also survived by his brother Curtis L. Allee, sister Dr. Rebecca J. Allee, mother Jeanne M. (Madeley) Payne, and step-father Claude E. Payne.
Rory has joined his older brothers, Stephen Lynn and Gary Wayne Allee, his father Jimmy Lee Allee, his maternal grandmother, Ethel M. Lord, and paternal grandparents, Jimmie Vivian (Taylor) and Claude Ledell Allee. He is in good company in his new home. A memorial service will be held at St. Francis by the Lake, 13250 Hwy. 306, in Canyon Lake, TX, this Thursday (April 16, 2015) at 1 pm, followed by a graveside service at 2 pm (tentative), Colonial Gardens, Hwy. 31 (Elysian Fields Road); in Marshall, TX.

Saul "Sal" Gonzales , 52, entered into eternal peace on Tues. Nov. 19, 2013. Sal was born June 21, 1961 to parents Erasmo & Jessie Gonzales. He graduated from HSPVA where he learned & mastered his passion for music. He enjoyed playing the trombone with various groups in the Houston/Texas areas. Sal was a very kind & gentle soul with a loving & generous heart that was always giving to others. He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his wife of 26yrs., Jackie Gonzales; children, Victoria & Matthew Gonzales; brothers, Manuel, Daniel, Julian, Samuel, Salvador & John; sisters, Martha & Rachel; mother-in-law, Clemencia G. Ana Pozzi passed away suddenly on April 2, 2010 at the age of 47, beloved daughter of Hector R. Pozzi and Dora Carlisky Pozzi and sister of Julian Pozzi. She enjoyed acting and singing from her early years, attended the High School for Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, and although she graduated from NYU with a BA in Psychology, her lifelong passion was the theater.
In Memory of Clifford Slocomb (Instrumental Music 1980) I have sad news to share on the 'stars in the sky' page- my very good friend, Clifford Slocomb, Instrumental, Violin, and Class of 1980 died in March 1990. Clifford was one of the good guys and was blessed with a lovely musical soul. His happiest times were at HSPVA.

In Memory of Victor Wray (Media Class of 1980) Victor was helping someone whose car had stalled on the Southwest Frwy here in Houston one rainy night and he was struck by a car. I believe this was the summer after we graduated, so summer of 1980. I am not 100% certain on the date, but I do know he was killed in an accident as described. His father was Dick Wray, a well known artist (sculptor) in the Houston area.

Pamela Marie Materanek, 51, was born on August 2, 1963 in Victoria, Texas. She passed to be with our Lord and Savior on January 13, 2015. She will be deeply missed and tenderly remembered by her numerous family members and friends. Among Pam's many gifts was her passionate connection with her pets and her prolific green thumb. All living plants and animals thrived under her tender care and attention. Like a beam of pure white light, this God given gift of love and compassion radiated from Pam.
In her youth she was decorated with many ribbons and trophies as a skilled equestrian. An accomplished ballerina with HSPVA, she earned a role in the annual holiday classic The Nutcracker with the Houston Ballet.
No stranger to hard work, Pam graduated at the top of her class with a bachelors degree in accounting from the University of St. Thomas.
She enjoyed basking in the sunshine and vacationing on tropical islands, for which she obtained a pilot's license and a scuba diving certificate.
Pam is survived by her father Lawrence Materanek , her step-mom Francee and her brother Lawrence Materanek II and his wife Cris. She was preceded in death by her mother Barbara Vonn and her sister Monica Materanek.
Please join us for a celebration of Pam's life on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. Obituary for Ralph William Dunn Ralph William Dunn was born October 3, 1964 in Houston, Texas and died October 25, 2011. He was the son of the late William Lee Dunn and Searcy Miller Dunn. Ralph grew up in Houston, Texas with his younger sister Dorothy Lee. He graduated from The High School for Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) and from Texas Lutheran University. Ralph was a member of the Texas State Guard and served his community and state during Hurricane Katrina. At different times during his life he was a public school teacher, an entrepreneur, and a skillful computer programmer/analyst. Ralph was also a talented and gifted writer, poet, multi-faceted artist and photographer whose humor, wit and intelligence will be greatly missed. Ralph is survived by his loving wife LiMei Chen Dunn (whom he described as “the light of my life”); his mother Searcy Miller Dunn Kracke and stepfather Frederick Lee Kracke; his sister Dorothy Lee Dunn Pickett, brother-in-law Patrick and niece Priscilla Jean; stepsister Mary Elizabeth Kracke Gajewski, her husband Dwayne and their daughters Caitlin and Ashlyn; stepbrother Gil Kracke, his wife Mae Mae and their daughters Caroline and Margaret; stepbrother David Kracke; father-in-law De Ke Chen and mother-in-law Su Zheng Qing; brother-in-law Gang Chen and his wife Ming Zhong; brother-in-law Jian Chen, his wife Qing Yang and their daughter CoCo; his uncle Hubbard C Miller; his cousin Jeffrey C Miller, his wife Laura and their daughter Jackie; his cousin Darrell Hubbard Miller, his wife Alicia, and their children Mason, Griffin, Morgan and Audrey; and by a large extended family and many loving friends.
