I was in instrumental music and played the sax - lots of bari sax. I'm sorry I could not attend the reunion - looks and sounds like lots of fun. I currently teach middle school band. It's a wonderful job, and I've done it a long time!
Message to the HSPVA band department: I think HSPVA should have a marching band (even if it's a silly one). Not having ever marched, I was at a disadvantage when I went to college and played in bands, and afterwards when I applied for band teaching jobs. I'm lucky to be teaching at an awesome middle school (I'm in my 29th year), but I don't feel I could have handled a high school band teaching job because I never had school marching experience. HSPVA also fostered a lack of respect for marching bands, which was not to our benefit.
Many students will become teachers. They should be well-rounded. In band, this includes marching band.
